How to Add More Storage to an iPhone or iPad

iphone wifi

If you have an iPhone, then you know the trouble you have with storage. Apple’s iPhones sadly have fixed storage, so if you’re needing more space, you’re out of luck. However, you may be able to do this easy trick to allow your iPhone to have a little more storage space.

If you’re needing some space, we recommend you delete your Facebook app. Don’t worry, you can still access it through Chrome. You should know that the Facebook app alone takes up between 500-600MB. You’ll thank us after you do it, especially when you see your battery life drastically increase. But if you’re needing more space, you’re going to have to do more than just delete your Facebook app. Here are some tricks you can do. Though they’re not ideal, these are the best options available for you at this time.

 External Storage Anyone?

You probably didn’t think of this as most people only think of external storage when it comes to their computers or cameras. However, external storage can give you unlimited space for your photos, music, documents, and movies. You have two options for external storage: plug-in storage (aka. Flash drive) or wireless media hubs.

Though you’ll have to make sure it’s phone-friendly, a flash drives can really change how your phone functions, for the better, that is.  For example, SanDisk’s IXpand line will provide you between 32GB to 256GB of external memory. It has a lightning connector at one end and USB 3.0 on the other. The wrap around design also reduces bulk so that it’s not sticking out of your phone.

Another option is something like Leef IAccess which has no onboard storage, instead, it holds microSD cards which you can alternate between your camera or phone. However, you should know that drives such as this one are not connected full-time. Meaning, you access them when you need it.

However, regardless of which drive you decide to use, you’ll be able to store your music, videos and data, thus, relieving your device, allowing it to hold apps and other information.

In order to use a plug-in device, you’ll need to follow these three easy steps:

Step 1: You need to connect your device to your PC or Mac. Then place any media/data you need on it.

Step 2: You’ll need to install the app that is compatible with the device you’re using.

Step 3: Run the app. Once it’s running, connect it to the drive. Now, you’re able to stream your media, music, photos and documents.

Wireless Options for External Storage

Now, if you’re not interested in having a flash drive sticking out of your phone, we don’t blame you. Instead, if you want, you can also take the wireless route, also known as a media hub. They usually come in various sizes and capacities, so, you’ll need to choose one which suits your needs. Though, regardless of the size, you need to ensure that you choose one with a pass-through option. The pass-through feature allows your device to stay connected to a Wifi network while you’re connected to the drive. This will decrease the time you need to disconnect and reconnect.

Still Not Enough?

If this still isn’t enough space for you, then you should consider purchasing a wireless hard drive. The wireless hard drive works similar to the media hub, however, it’s large in both size and price. So, it’s not as convenient if you’re looking for something portable.

However, if you need more space, you can opt for something a little more portable such as Seagate Wireless Mobile Storage drive. It will offer you 20 hours of battery life and is pocket-friendly. Of course, it’s pricier than an SD card or flash drive, however, if you’re in need of more memory, you’ll have to pay more, it’s that simple.

Of course, we’re hoping that with the new iDevices, they’ll create expansion slots. However, until then, then, you’ll have to use external storage to deal with your memory storage issues. If you’re in a bind when it comes to finding space on your device, remember, you can always delete your Facebook app!
