  • Best iOS Apps To Pass The Time

Best iOS Apps To Pass The Time

Our phones can do some pretty amazing things. From looking up the answer to basically any question you have to even doing much of your work on the go. However, let’s be honest, it’s also very fun and easy to waste time on your device. But that’s by no means a bad thing! Whether you’re sitting on the bus or in the waiting room at the doctor’s office, you’re going to need a way to let the time roll by. Well, here are some of the most essential iOS apps for passing that time.

    Trivia Crack

Trivia Crack is one of my favorite mobile games not only because its design is filled with charm, but because it’s a fun game that still stimulates your mind.  Additionally, because it has a good amount of categories, you can balance questions you’re not very good at (science for me) with questions you know much more about (entertainment for me).

By now, you pretty much know all about Netflix. The streaming giant has become well known for its great selection of shows, movies, and original series. This makes it not only an essential for your laptop, but for your mobile device as well. This is especially the case because of one of Netflix’s newest features: offline viewing. Simply download shows and movies you’d like to watch later while you’re connected to WiFi and you’re good to go. Sure beats wasting all your mobile data.

    Pokemon Go

While the other apps on this list are more for passing time on a car ride or laying around the house, Pokemon Go is a great timewaster for getting out and about. If you’ve been feeling pretty stir crazy and just need to get some fresh air, Pokemon Go is the perfect app that mixes the real world with the video game world. Plus you get to catch cute little monsters. That speaks for itself.

  • Painnt Android Review

    Painnt Android Review

Let me just start out this review by saying that if you’ve got a problem with words that look like they’re misspelled, this might not be the review for you. Even I had to also give it a second look to make sure I wasn’t just reading the title wrong. Anyways, let’s take a look at Painnt for Android devices. The spelling is still throwing you off, isn’t it?

    What Is Painnt?

Unlike Microsoft’s well-known application Paint, Painnt with two n’s is actually more of a photo filter app than a drawing application. So maybe that extra n stands for “not like the other Paint”? I’m just guessing here, people. Painnt allows you to take an image from your collection, camera, or even social media accounts and apply a number of different filters. And, as somebody that already overuses filters on pretty much every social media account, I’d say it could never hurt to throw a little extra filter on.

    How Is The App?

While there are already plenty of different photo editing apps available, especially ones that deal primarily with filters, I enjoyed the many options presented by Painnt. While there were many general filters that give simplistic looks, there were also more creative additions such as crayon, which as you can imagine makes everything appear as though it was drawn in crayon. And crayons are my personal favorite writing tool. I’d write these reviews in crayon if I could.

    The Bottom Line

Painnt for Android devices might not be everyone’s first choice for an editing app, but it definitely offers a robust amount of features. My only real issue with the app is how long it takes to preview your changes once you apply them. However, that might just show me that I need to be a bit more patient. Ehh, I’ll be more patient next year.

  • How To Use Water Time Pro (Android)

How To Use Water Time Pro (Android)

Drinking water on a consistent basis is not the easiest thing in the world to do. At least, you’d think that from scrolling around the many app stores. Seriously, I feel like I saw more water drinking apps than photo editing apps. And, trust me, I saw a TON of those. Seeing as I’ve already reviewed one water drinking app in the past, I’m pretty qualified to look at another, right? Right? Well, whatever. I’m going to do it anyways. Let’s take a look at Water Time Pro for Android devices.

    What Is Water Time Pro?

As you can probably tell from my intro, the name, and even the logo of Water Time Pro, this app is meant to remind you when it’s time to drink water. Which is kind of funny because, you know, we all need water to live. Which makes it kinda hilarious that we need an app for it. What’s next, an app that reminds us when to eat? Which reminds me, it’s almost lunchtime…

    How Do You Use It?

Much like the act of drinking water, Water Time Pro is a pretty simple app. You simply begin by choosing what type of drink you’ve consumed during the day by scrolling around different sizes and options. You can also change your personal information such as gender and weight (which affect how much water you need) and set how often you’d like water reminder alarms to go off by tapping the settings and alarm buttons respectively.

    The Bottom Line

Water Time Pro offers everything you’d expect from a water reminder app: easy tracking, alarms, and customizability. However, one thing I forgot to mention was the adorable mascot featured throughout the app, a cute little water drop. The little thing smiles as you gulp your water, and can even wear a little headband if you tap the little kettle bell in the bottom right. If that doesn’t put a smile on your face while you’re constantly being reminded to drink water, I don’t know what will.

  • How To Fix iOS Charging Problems

How To Fix iOS Charging Problems

Let’s be totally honest, having to charge your phone can be a bit of a pain. When you’re getting ready to go for a nice walk and realize your phone has just dropped below 10%, it’s a saddening feeling beyond anything I’ve ever known. Maybe I need to get out more. However, while charging isn’t the ideal pastime, it can be made even worse when the charger itself doesn’t work. But fear not, dear reader, as I have a grand solution for you. After all, it’s pretty much what I promised in the title. Let’s take a look at how to fix charging issues on your iOS device.

    What’s The Problem?

We’ve all been there. Desperate to charge our phone battery so that we can continue scrolling through our favorite memes. But suddenly, hope is lost when, upon plugging it in, you realize that the phone isn’t charging at all. What kind of insanity is this?! Well, calm down for a second. This can be fixed. We shall work through these trying times together.

    What’s The Solution?

The most likely issue with your device is that it simply needs a quick cleaning. You see, while our devices can do incredible things such as let us watch the iconic Gangnam Style video (which is still an amazing song by the way), they are also susceptible to dirt and corrosion buildup. Luckily, it’s a pretty easy fix. Begin by shutting your device off. To get rid of dirt, a simple toothpick can dig away some of the buildup in your Lightning port. Additionally, spraying in some compressed air can easily get rid of excess dust. As for corrosion, unplugging and replugging your device numerous times followed by cleaning the port with a q-tip covered in electrical contact cleaner should do the trick. Just remember to wait about half a minute to turn the device back on and never spray the electrical contact cleaner directly into the port.

    The Bottom Line

And there you have it! Cleaning out your Lightning port is pretty simple after all. Your phone should be back to normal and you can get back to posting some great selfies with that perfect filter.

  • Goodbye, iPhone Headphone Jack

    Goodbye, iPhone Headphone Jack

If you own an iPhone or aspire to someday own an iPhone, you may have heard that the iPhone 7 is officially the first model of the popular series without the headphone jack. And you also may have been angered by this fact, realizing that your extremely expensive studio headphones are now basically useless the next time you head to the gym. Well, why don’t we just take a minute to talk about this and look at the future of headphone jacks, shall we?

    Wait, What Happened?

With the iPhone 7 now the next big thing in iOS technology, there is sure to be a lot of talk about the improvements it will make. However, one feature in particular has resulted in quite an uproar: the lack of a headphone jack on the new model. The phone instead can be purchased with Airpods, the new wireless headphones designed by Apple. It’s almost as if Apple wants to make more money or something.

    What Does This Mean?

The lack of a headphone jack isn’t the worst idea in the world. In fact, it allows for improved design for the device. However, making it a standard on the model instead of simply offering two different types of iPhone 7 with one offering the headphone jack is a bit of a headscratcher. Apple’s done some interesting things in the past that have been bold to say the least. But this move seems more like a cash grab than a true innovation.

    The Future

Now, just because Apple has decided to delve into the future without a way to plug in your headphones, does that mean other mobile devices will follow suit? Personally, I don’t believe so. Android phones have generally tried to be as user friendly as possible, from never changing their USB to offering plenty of customizability. So does that mean this is the end of Apple phones? Considering nearly everyone I know still has one, somehow I doubt it.

  • Flixster Windows Review

    Flixster Windows Review

Movies are an incredible thing. They prove that, with a ton of money and some simple ideas, you can create some pretty entertaining content. However, I’m not very good at actually making it to the theatre. Maybe it’s because I just never had an app that showed me theatre times and locations. Or maybe I’m just too lazy to actually get out of bed and go to the theatre. Yeah, let’s go with that one. Let’s take a look at Flixster for Windows devices.

    What Is Flixster?

Flixster is an application for mobile phones. Well, I guess I could pretty much say that for any of these reviews, couldn’t I? The application features information on all the current movies, from new releases to what’s come to DVD. Additionally, tapping on any movie can get you some additional information as well as trailers for the films.

    How Is The App?

If you’re a consistent movie-goer or just an old fashioned fan of films, Flixster might just be the app for you. Featuring easy scrollability and a quick look at how well a movie is rated, Flixster is the ultimate companion piece for a trip to the theatre. If you’ve got the energy to get out of bed. Unlike me. Additionally, you can take a look at some upcoming films you may be excited about to get some information, showtimes at your local theatre, and even some early reviews to help you determine whether or not you’d like to see the film at all. Pretty useful, really.

    The Bottom Line

Flixster is a very useful app for moviegoers. Possibly its best feature is the ability to quickly look at a movie and see how well it’s been rated by critics and audiences alike. Even if they’re not always right. After all, Muppets Most Wanted definitely deserved a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.

  • 2048! Windows Review

    2048! Windows Review

I can openly admit that I’ve never been all that good with numbers. Dating back to my early days of doing simple math problems at school, the world of plus signs, minus signs and...other numbery things has never really appealed to me. But what if they tried to make math fun? Well, it probably still wouldn’t help that much. But I’m still down to give it a try. Let’s take a look at 2048! for Windows devices.

    What Is 2048!?

2048! is a pretty popular numbers-based game that involves, well, numbers. You begin with a few simple numbers and a grid. From there, you simply swipe around the screen to join the different numbers together, adding them in the process. But there’s a catch! You see, you can only join two numbers if they are the exact same amount. And, because of my admitted lack of prowess with numbers, you can imagine how well I did at this game.

    How Is The Game?

While I didn’t go into the game with a lot of hope for myself, I ended up really enjoying 2048! And no, that exclamation point wasn’t just because of unbridled enthusiasm, it’s also in the title of the game. The swiping around to join different numbers proved to be quite addictive, even if I never hit the desired number of 2048. Someday, perhaps. My only real issue with the app is, if you’d like, you can pretty much just swipe randomly and let the numbers fall into place. Not that I did that of course…

    The Bottom Line

2048! may not be the usual kind of mobile game I enjoy, but I was thoroughly impressed with both the basic concept than the execution of the app.  Now, does this means I’m going to suddenly become some kind of math wizard? No, probably not. Even if I’m cool with becoming any kind of wizard.

  • How To Use Wunderlist (Android)

    How To Use Wunderlist (Android)

As I’ve explained numerous times in these articles, I am not a very organized person. I have friends and family that seem to go through life organized, but have never been able to catch on. However, maybe I just need to start using more organizational tools. Like sticky notes or a planner or tying a string around my finger so I can remember when I need to do something. Or even an app! And I can use this situation as a sloppy intro to introduce the fact that I’m reviewing WunderList for Android devices today. Brilliant! Let’s take a look at the WunderList app.

    What Is WunderList?

The WunderList app is one of your standard organizational apps. The application is sort of like an interactive planner, where you divide different lists and check everything off. But how do you use it? Well I’m glad you asked! Because that’s exactly what I was going to tell you in the next section. Funny how that works, isn’t it?

    How Do You Use It?

Wunderlist works very similarly to your usual planning/list app. You begin by checking off what types of lists you’d like to keep, such as movies to watch and groceries. From there, you simply tap one of your lists, add more options by typing in the “add a to-do” bar and check off what you’ve done by tapping the star next to the option you’ve just completed.

    The Bottom Line

Wunderlist is a very well designed app. While I’ve seen plenty of note taking and organizing apps before, I really enjoy the way Wunderlist is designed. Everything looks nice and functions well, and the pre-determined lists are very helpful, as I wouldn’t have thought to make a list of movies I need to watch. Like that one movie that everyone keeps telling me to watch. I’ll get to it someday.

  • How To Use Sketch N Go (Android)

How To Use Sketch N Go (Android)

Drawing apps are generally a bit of a mixed bag. You see, while drawing on a regular computer can be enhanced by using intricate Photoshop tools and a mouse, drawing with your fingers tends to be a bit on the difficult side. You especially know this if you’ve ever tried to play the addictive (yet very difficult on a tiny phone) game Draw Something. However, is there an app that can make drawing on phones just the slightest bit easier? I’m not sure. I haven’t begun reviewing this one yet. Let’s take a look at Sketch N Go for Android devices.

    What Is Sketch N Go?

Sketch N Go is, at a glance, your basic drawing app. Most of these kinds of applications will generally have a very Microsoft Paint kind of feeling to them, with a few basic tools for drawing and editing. But how do you use such an app? Well, let’s find out! In the next section! Right now!

    How Do You Use It?

As soon as you start up the app, you’re presented with a blank sheet of paper. From there, you may tap the settings button in the top left to change up your color or brush. Additionally, you can choose to save the drawing to your device or even share it through texting or social media.

    The Bottom Line

Sketch N Go is one of the better drawing apps I’ve reviewed. While it still suffers from the fact that it’s difficult to use as a mobile drawing app, there’s definitely some good alternatives for basic drawing. For example, certain brushes allow you to draw with full shapes, meaning you can create intricate pieces of art that look much less sloppy than your usual mobile drawing app. And in case I didn’t make it clear enough, mobile drawing apps are hard to get precise. (But Sketch N Go does it pretty well.)

  • Forest Android Review

    Forest Android Review

To be totally honest, I’m not very good at maintaining focus. In a world of so many things to do, so many things to see, and so many games of Super Mario Run I should be playing (hold on, I’ve gotta do a quick playthrough before finishing this sentence), it's not very easy to stay focused. However, while our devices are very good at distracting us, they’ve also got ways of keeping us pretty focused. After all, there has to be some balance, right? Well, with that in mind, let’s take a look at the Forest app for Android devices.

    What Is Forest?

Forest is an app where you grow a forest. Sounds pretty exciting, right? Well, allow me to explain with a bit more depth. You see, the app begins with you planting a simple tree. From there, a timer begins. If you begin using your phone for anything else, the tree dies. And, just to increase the guilt a little bit more, it actually asks you if you’re OK with letting the tree die before you give up. Man, they really know how to tug at the heartstrings.

    How Is The App?

I must say, this is a pretty ingenious idea for an app. The creators clearly knew that people have a bit of a tough time staying focused with these devices of infinite entertainment, so they created a way to essentially guilt you into not using your phone. Pretty forward thinking, really.

    The Bottom Line

While I’m usually pretty good about staying off of my phone when I’m trying to get some work done (or I was before Super Mario Run came out), I can totally see why people would be interested in this app. Not only does it make you feel bad if you quit too early, it makes you feel great as you grow your little forest. And, while I've never grown a real forest, I imagine it feels pretty darn good.
