  • How to Turn off Activation Lock on iPhone and iPad

    Activation Lock

For years, one of the great competitive advantages Apple had in their never-ending crusade against Android was a much used but little known feature called ‘Activation Lock’. Like every great Apple feature, ‘Activation Lock’ arose out of a specific need, namely that of keeping your data safe. In a very real way, Activation Lock arose from the fact that your Apple ID — the login and password that Apple asked you to set up when you first got your iPhone — is actually being used to backup a sizable portion of your data including photos, emails, texts, and notes. Luckily for you, Activation Lock is state-of-the-art theft protection which doesn’t allow your data to fall to prying eyes.

Now, you might be thinking ‘If Activation Lock is so great, why would I ever disable it?” and normally, you’d be right — in 99% of the cases there’s no real reason to ever opt for less security. That being said, Activation Lock can cause some annoyance when you’re trying to buy or sell an iPhone/iPad. Why? Because before a new Apple ID can be associated with a device — and in order for the device itself to be activated — any account that was previously associated with said device has to be removed entirely, a process which isn’t always the best explained on the internet and which might be a just a tad frustrating for more inexperienced users.

Following Steve Jobs’ recommendation that any action have three distinct ways of being accomplished in the Apple Universe, you have three options when it comes to turning off Activation Lock. Keep reading to find which path suits your experience level the best.

How to Turn off Activation Lock with the Find My iPhone App

Before continuing, it’s important to know that Activation Lock is tightly integrated to the Find my iPhone service on your iPhone or iPad device. If you’re not sure whether or not you have this app installed, just search for ‘Find my iPhone’ within the Spotlight pane which is accessible when swiping right on your iDevice’s home screen.

Once you’ve verified whether or not you have Find my iPhone, you can get down to turning off Activation Lock. Find the Settings app on your phone/tablet and tap on it in order to open up your device’s settings. Next, find the iCloud icon and tap on it in order to reach iCloud’s main menu. Once there, tap Find My iPhone. Once you’ve done so, you’ll see an option beside the icon to either turn it on or off, you’ll want to turn it off. To do so, you’ll have to enter your password to confirm the action and once you complete that, you’ll be able to tap “off”.

Turning off Activation Lock with iCloud.Com

If your iPhone or iPad isn’t around, don’t worry, you can still turn off the Activation Lock. As long as you have internet available to you, then you’ll be able to do so. To get started, open your internet browser.

On your browser, go to Once the page has loaded up on your browser, you’ll be able to access Find My iPhone from the website directly, regardless of whether you’re using a Mac or PC. You’ll be asked to sign into your iCloud account with your username and password. Once you’re in your account, you may not be redirected automatically to Find My iPhone, if that’s the case then you’ll want to click on the Home menu where the Find My iPhone service is located. Once you’ve clicked on it, then you’ll be taken to the Find My iPhone screen where you’ll want to click on All Devices at the top of the screen. Choose the device you want to remove. Then click on Erase on the upper right hand corner of the screen, it’ll be underneath the picture of your device. Click Erase and then wait for a confirmation, then click Remove from Account.

Disabling Activation Lock Through Apple's Customer Service Directly

Now, if these two options don’t work, and in reality, they absolutely should, you still have one last option. You’ll have to contact Apple through their phone support line or by heading on over to your local Apple Store. If you choose the former option, make sure you bring documentation proving that it’s your device. If they believe that the device is yours, a certified Apple Specialist will be able to remove the Activation Lock for you.

  • Google's Motion Stills Is Now Available on Android

    Motion Still

As avid phone users, we’re always waiting for the next best thing to come out. Whether it’s a better camera, faster processor, or more advanced extra features - we want it all. When Apple came out with their live photos features, many Android users groaned with jealousy over the fact that they weren’t being offered something similar. However, Google recently surprised Android users by bringing out one of the last iOS features for Android: Motion Stills. As you can probably gleam by reading above, Motion Stills is directly inspired by Cupertino’s own ‘live photos’ feature. For those of you who need a crash course in what live photos are, they basically amount to short, 3-second clips that loop much like an Animated GIF does. The benefit of live photos is obvious — instead of capturing that exact moment, you’re able to capture what happened before the shot was taken.

Now, one year later, Motion Stills are now available on Android. But there’s a catch, it’s only available for the approximately 65% of Android devices which are running on Android 5.1 or higher.

In comparison to Apple, the design of the live photo app is different on Android. Apple uses existing video footage to create a Motion Stills, however, with Android, Motion Stills are created by making a video in the app. This creates an image similar to Boomerang or Hyperlapse. It essentially loops the sequence over and over again which you see immediately after recording - you don’t have to wait in order to share your GIF either. Let’s look a little closer at what Google\s Motion Stills has to offer Android users.

Are There Other Features Included in Google's Motion Stills?

The great part about Google’s Motion Stillss is that it includes other features as well. Fast Forward is another feature which is designed via a stabilization algorithm that captures a clip and creates a time-lapse. This may sound complex and from a programming standpoint, it is. However, from a user perspective, essentially, the Fast Forward feature allows you to speed up a clip. You’re able to adjust the speed from 1x to 8x depending on the effect you’re looking for. After you customize the clip, you’re able to output it as a GIF in one of the three sizes.

In addition, in Motion Stills by Google, you’ll also be able to add fun Motion text and emojis to each GIF you make. This is another great feature which adds individuality and flair to your own personal GIFs.

If you’re making GIFs to share with your friends, you’ll be happy to know that with Motion Stills, you can easily share your live photos with anyone. You can export multiple clips all at once as well for quick and easy sharing.

Lastly, Motion Stills newest feature is the video collage. If you have multiple photos that you’d like to put together, you’ll be able to do so with ease. In addition, you’ll have a choice from twenty different collage layouts to choose from - so, in terms of customization, you really have many options to make your GIF as authentic as you want.

    Is There a Downside?

When it comes to the app itself, there’s no real downside to installing and using Motion Stills. Those who use it are fans of the app as it works just as well, if not better than Apple’s version. The only real downside is that it’s only available to 65% of Android phones. Meaning, there are a couple million people that are unable to take hold of this great app. However, this is a huge technological advancement, so, we can only guess what the next big achievement will be.

Now that you know about the new Motion Stills by Google, it’s about time you downloaded it to your Android. Remember, it’ll only be usable on phones which are operating on Android 5.1 or higher. If you’re interested in downloading it, go to your Google Play account and search by Motion Stills. Simply tap on the app icon to download and once completed, open it on your home screen. From there, you’ll be able to take as many live photos as you want.

  • How to Get Rid of Reminders with Taskful

With the endless amount of apps and data on our phone, at the end of the day, most of our notifications amount to an endless scroll of reminders. Let’s be honest, when was the last time you didn’t just dismiss all of your notifications off the bat? If you’re like most people, after a while, you stop looking at your notifications and hope to never see another reminder again

While notifications on iOS might be fundamentally broken, what with all notifications being given equal importance, the fact of the matter is that it doesn’t have to be that way. Taking into account the fact that most of us don’t complete all our tasks in one go, Taskful is on the scene in order to remedy the most egregious aspects of the iOS notification mess.

Taskful is a smart to-do list and task manager app. It helps you make sure you’re staying on track and meeting your personal deadlines. Though you may have an endless amount of tasks to do this week, Taskful gives you a breakdown of what needs to be completed today. That way, you stay focused on today’s tasks and not get overwhelmed by the other things you have to do later in the week.

Taskful can take on any task whether it be counting your steps, making sure you read the chapter of your university textbook or reminding you to drink water.

    How Does Taskful Work?

What makes Taskful different than other task manager apps is that it allows you to customize your reminders. Users can select certain days of the week for reminders and Taskful will display the tasks that you need to complete for that day. In addition, it also leaves out future tasks you have to complete. So, if you’re someone who is getting overwhelmed by looking at their endless list of tasks, this app would help you out by staying focused on what you need to today.

Because Taskful is a smart task manager, this also means you’ll need to invest some time is properly inputting information. Taskful will not be able to properly manage your tasks unless you give it enough detailed information to work with.

If you’ve used Apple’s Reminders app before, then you’ll understand how Taskful works since they share some similar traits.

Taskful, like Apple’s own Reminders app, is based on categories in order to sort items. For example, Taskful has categories such as Urgent, Finance, Work, etc. All categories are displayed with a specific color as well for the easier organization. However, this is the only similarity between Taskful and Apple’s Reminder app. With Taskful, for example, in order to file a task, you simply swipe left and right to change the category of your task. While you’re filling out task information, the app is analyzing the task and using the information given to suggest measuring sticks for the task. Essentially, it helps you to even alert you in how long each task will take you to complete. As you’re completing your task, you can tap it and it will show you your progress. Truly, Taskful cannot be compared to any other task management app on the market right now.

    Additional Features

As a smart task manager app, of course, it’s capable of more than just reminding you when to do things. Taskful also can act as a step tracker. Using Healthkit data, with your permission of course, the app can also track your step count and remind you to exercise if you have walked less than 600 steps that day.  Furthermore, Taskful also comes with a lot of customizations such as built-in dark mode.

In the world of task managing apps, Taskful has made itself one of the leading apps on the market. The versatility of Taskful is what makes this app exceptional. It’s available on iPhone and iPad for $1.99. Buy your copy today!

  • Send iMessages to Your Menu Bar with Unreplied

To say that your phone is the most important thing you own is probably an understatement. Our smartphones connect us to friends and family around the world, give us instant access to our most treasured social media feeds, and even assist us with our personal finance. You know what all three of those tasks have in common, by the way? Push notifications. That’s right, your phone is being constantly altered throughout the day, meaning that sometimes it gets a bit difficult to reply to every message and swipe away every alert.

We live in the age of the push notification. So, why not download an app that can help you manage it all? That’s where Unreplied comes in. It’s the app that can help you manage your unread messages and help you reduce your time spent glued to your screen. Sounds heavenly, doesn’t it?

    What Is Unreplied?

If you’re looking for a way to keep your messages in check, maybe you’re simply popular or you're a forgetful responder, Unreplied can help you out. Unreplied is the only app available that helps you out by showing your missed iMessage and SMS conversations. Unreplied essentially sits in your Mac’s Menu bar and bundles your iMessage and SMS chats in just one place - that way, you don’t miss another important text. Ever.

Unreplied states that it’s easy for us to overlook a message when we’re busy at work or distracted with other things going on. Thus, when installing the application, the app recommends that you opt for the iMessage alert icon to your Menu bar. With this icon in your menu bar, it’ll show you the unanswered text messages you have in your inbox. It’ll alert you by displaying either a black or red digit above the icon.

You’re aware of the iMessage alert that comes with Unreplied, however, the app also comes with other features to show you unread messages. In addition to the iMessage alert icon, it also comes with a drop down menu which lists your unread conversations in chronological order. It even shows you a small snippet of what is contained in the message and the date and time. You simply tap the message you’d like to open up and it’ll open up iMessage where you can respond.

Unreplied also allows you the ability to customize the app, ensuring that it fits your needs. You can decide whether or not you’d like to hide messages after a certain amount of days, how much of the message you’d like to be shown, when Unreplied should scan for messages and whether or not you’d like the number of unread messages to show in the icon bar. Unreplied allows you full control over what you’d like to see, how much you’d like to see and when you’d like to see it.

    Is It Secure?

When it comes to apps accessing your personal information, most people ask themselves the question, “is this app secure?” This is an important question to ask before you allow any app to access your phone. With Unreplied is a secured app. Unreplied uses ‘macOS sandbox’ to keep your conversations inaccessible and safe. What macOS sandbox does is block network and file system access, so, even if Unreplied was hacked, it wouldn’t be able to share your data due to macOS sandbox.

The only downside to Unreplied is the limitation to iMessage — meaning that if you’re looking for an app to show you all your unanswered messages across a variety of platforms such as Facebook Messenger, Email, Whatsapp, and Viber — you’d best be served by some other solution. That being said, however, Unreplied is the only service that works with iMessage, meaning that it’s a must-have for Mac users in 2017. We can only hope that in time they’ll expand their services to other communication platforms, making our lives even easier. Download it today!

  • Airmail for iOS: Meet the Email App Which Can Do Everything

Still using Apple Mail on your iOS device? There’s a better way to do email, and it’s called “Airmail”. While a bevy of alternative iOS email apps have been available ever since Apple allowed third party email apps way back in 2011, the fact of the matter is that none of them come close to offering the simplicity and flexibility of Airmail — more on that later.

Some of you might recognize the name Airmail from the award-winning OS X app which has been around for the better part of half a decade now. If so, then you’re spot on with your guess: Airmail for iOS is a mobile-optimized version of the very same app you might currently be using to handle your inbox on your desktop or laptop computer right now!

Far from just a simple port of the desktop version, Airmail for iOS simply packs more options than just about any other mail app on the iOS App Store right now. Period. While it’s a bit pricier than some of its competitors at $4.99, we believe that this app more than pays for itself by allowing you to be more productive, reactive, and more communicative.

Let's get down to the features, shall we? Airmail supports Gmail, Exchange, IMAP, and POP3. It also includes push notifications, Apple Watch integration, threaded and single message support, email 'snoozing', iCloud Sync with your Mac's Airmail client, Drafts, multiple signatures, a Unified Inbox, Aliases, 3D Touch, Google Drive & Dropbox integration, and so much more. We mean that last bit, too. There’s so many other features that it’s almost impossible to speak to each and every one of them — which is why we recommend that you head on over to Airmail’s website directly and check out all of the features that each version has brought to the app over time.

Going back to specifics, we believe that the Gmail integration is probably the best that we’ve ever seen outside of Google’s own iOS Gmail app. We’ve never experienced any issues regarding syncing or importing settings from Gmail into the app itself.

The other big thing to note is the inclusion of threaded message support. Gone are the days where you’ll have to search throughout your inbox for the 14 different messages which you might’ve sent someone during a given day. Instead, your messages are grouped together so that you can find all messages sent to a particular contact on the same day. Neat, huh?

Now that we’ve covered most of the ‘under-the-hood’ features, let’s move on to the meat and potatoes of the app: design. Users who have been accustomed to using Apple Mail will delight in the fact that the design feels much more modern than the barely-been-touched-since-iOS-7 design which Apple’s default mail client has. Also important to mention is the fact that the app itself uses a series of left and right swipes in order to allow the user to accomplish certain tasks with a given message. For example, if you left just a little bit and let go, you can trash your message. On the other hand, if you swipe completely to the left, you can move it to an action list for later parsing. Conversely, if a short swipe right will let you archive a message, while a long swipe lets you ‘snooze’ it. Speaking of snoozing, it seems to be a unique feature of Airmail — as far as we can tell. Snoozing lets you temporarily archive a message and have it come back into your inbox after a pre-determined time period, a feature that’s quite useful for those of us who find ourselves having to deal with a larger-than-normal amount of email volume during a given day.

Airmail for iOS is currently available for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. If you’d like to find out more then head on over to the website here. Where you can read more about the app as well as new features which will be coming soon over the coming months.

Have you used Airmail in the past? Let us know what you think in the comment section at the bottom of this post!

  • Best Keyboard for Android

Still using your stock Android OS keyboard? That’s a bad look. With hundreds of keyboard choices available to you, you should try downloading some new virtual keyboards in order to see if there are some which’ll suit your needs. Whether you’d like a larger or smaller keyboard, one with gesture controls or predictive text, there’s going to be an option available to you. Luckily for you, however, you won’t have to sift through all of them in order to find the best ones. We did the homework for you and found the best keyboards for a variety of your needs. So sit back and relax, here are the best keyboards for your Android phone.

    For Overall Functionality

If you’re not looking for something overly specific, then we highly suggest the Gboard designed by Google. Originally, this was created for the iPhone, however, they made a version for Android not too long after - we’re happy they did! The Google Keyboard is fully updated with incredible features which include Google translate, integrated web search, and GIF search. Basically, it comes with every you need to write a message. Whether you prefer gesture typing for individual words or sentences, Gboard support either option as well as an endless amount of languages. The predictive text doesn’t always the word right, but it’s really not that bad. Over time, it learns the words that you most commonly use and adapts to your data.

If you’re unable to write a message, for whatever reason, you can also use the speech-to-text engine that works with voice dictation. Sure, it won’t be able to get every word, but it does a pretty good job if you speak clearly and at a decent pace.  Ideally, if you’re looking for a keyboard that can do a little bit of everything, then Gboard is a great option. In addition, you also can turn on “Google search” which allows you to search up anything quickly. Most importantly, it’s completely free for Android users.

    For Gesture Texting

Gesture typing, also known as swipe typing, allows you to type with one hand. Essentially, gesture typing allows you to slide your fingers around the keyboard to write out a complete word. If you’re looking for a keyboard that’s well built for gesturing typing then you should try Swype. It’s a highly favored keyboard for Android phones and allows you to swipe out a word or entire sentences. It also supports two languages for bilingual users. Swype gives users a free trial version, however, you can also purchase the full version for one dollar.

Swype comes with features such as TalkBack and Explore By Touch - these two features are designed to assist the vision-impaired and allows them to use the keyboard with ease. You’re also given features such as copy and paste. Swipe-based typing is a great way to reduce texting time and get what you want to say out there as quickly as possible.

    For Word Predictions

If you’re fixated on word predictions then you should opt for Swiftkey. In comparison to Gboard, it ranks higher than it in word predictions. It usually comes pre-installed on many Android phones and tablets. So, if you’re constantly messaging people, for example, you’re an editor, then Swiftkey is very useful for you. Though, it doesn’t have the special features which Gboard has, if you’re only in need of a keyboard, then you’ll love Swiftkey.

It used to be a paid app, however, in 2014, they made the keyboard free while charged users for having different themes. So, you can use it for free, simply if you want a special theme, you pay. These themes add more individuality to your keyboard, so if that’s important to you, you can customize it.  It’s still one of the favored keyboard apps on the market today and is a great alternative to Gboard.

Now that you know what the keyboards for Androids are, try them out. They all offer free versions, so give them all a try and see which one suits you the best. These keyboards are all made to make your life a little easier and help you reduce the amount of time that you’re on your phone.

  • How and When to Clear Android App Cache or Data

    Clear Cache

Is your phone acting up on you? If your Android device is a bit long in the tooth, sometimes you’ll notice it starting to lag, crash, or open apps that you didn’t mean to open — y’know, typical Android problems. Now this isn’t because your phone has a virus or needs to be replaced, It could be that you just have too much information on it, unnecessary information.  So, if you’re noticing your apps are sluggish, that’s when you know it’s time to clean up the cached data. How do you do that? Good question! Let’s get started by showing you how it’s done, shall we?

    Clearing Your App Cache

When you start to use an application, you may not notice but they’ll start to store files in your app for reference. They’ll save files that could be images or text that you’ve already read so that they don’t have to re-download this information again. Basically, this is meant to save time when you open your app. This information is stored in an app’s cache file. You don’t have to do this weekly, you can allow some time to pass before you do it again. Remember, each time you do this, it’s removing your stored data, so it’ll have to download this information again when your app needs to reference this information. For example, if you remove Google Maps caches data, the addresses you’ve search previously will all be deleted. So, you’ll have to re-enter this information into Google Maps again.

Nevertheless, in order to do this, it’s quite easy and you’ll be able to gain some space that was being used by cached data.

Go into Settings on your Android, once in Settings, scroll down until you find Apps. Tap on Apps. You’ll notice that it’ll show you every single app you have on your Android. Now, you can tap on an app of your choice, where it’ll bring you to a screen which provides you information on that specific app. Now, it varies for each Android, however, for many, if you tap on storage, it’ll take you to another screen where you’ll see cache. Underneath of cache, you’ll see Clear Cache, tap on it. Then, you’ll have clear the cached data from the app. You can go back, click on another app and follow the same procedure.

Clearing App Data or Resetting an App

Now clearing app data is more intense than just clearing cache. By doing this, you’re also clearing any settings that have been made with that app. Essentially, you’re choosing to start all over again, as if you just downloaded this app - it’ll be brand new. You do this as the last restore. Perhaps after clearing cache, your phone is still lagging, if so, then you should do this.

In order to do this, you’re going to go into settings. Once in settings, scroll down until you find Apps. Tap on Apps.  It’s essentially the same way you’d access cache. Again, you’ll notice that it’ll show you every single app you have on your Android. Now, you can tap on an app of your choice, where it’ll bring you to a screen which provides you information on that specific app. Now, it varies for each Android, however, for many, if you tap on storage, once in storage, you’ll see the option clear data. Tap on clear data. It’ll clear all your apps data.

Now, you need to open the app and sign in and/or proceed with essentially reinstalling it since you won’t have any old data on it. Once you have the app up and running, see if the problems you had with it are fixed. Whether it fixes the problem or not, you should contact the developer of the app and alert them of what your problem is. They’ll be happy to hear this information for when they’re making upgrades to the app. Plus, they may be able to give you suggestions on what went wrong and what can be done.

Remember, clear your cache data when you feel your phone is acting weird and/or sluggish. If your app is really bugging out, then clear its data and start from scratch. If none of these work, contact the developer.

  • Get a 3D Stereo Sound Effect on Any Android Device

Want even more loudness coming out of your Android device’s speakers? You’re not the only one. Unfortunately, even mega-corporations like Samsung and LG still haven’t realized that what we all really want is a smartphone that’s capable of getting us to groove in just the tap of an onscreen button.

Yes, we’ve been cursed with almost one-dimensional sound, but no longer. You now have the opportunity to play your favorite tunes (or podcasts!) back with 3D sound. More on this below:

Ever hear of Goetrek’s AM3D? It’s a piece of software that can provide you with the highest-quality of audio processing available on the market right now. You know that this product is legit when it’s being used in the sound industry by audio recording professionals! What’s more, what they offer in comparison to their competitors is something called virtual surround sound, a highly innovative piece of software that can make a two speaker setup sound like a complete 5.1 home theatre experience. Pretty crazy, right?

Previously, you wouldn’t be able to take advantage of this tech on a smartphone unless you owned a  Sharp AQUOS smartphone which came pre-loaded with AM3D’s Zirene software. These days, however, you’re able to install these feature onto any Android phone. To make the installation process easy and quick, you want to make sure you have Magisk installed into your smartphone. Magisk will work with ViPER4Android, Dolby Atmos and other audio mods - so, basically, you’ll be able to do get started once you have Magisk on your smartphone.

Let’s get started in showing you how it’s done.

    1. What you’re going to want to do first is install the module. You’re going to enter your installed app, Magisk and go into the download Search for AM3D Zirene and tap on the download icon when it shows up. Then, click install, it’ll take a few seconds to process. Another screen will pop up asking you to reboot, tap reboot.

    2. Your Android will reboot itself and you’ll then want to open to AM3D Zirene Sound app. Once opened, you’re going to ensure that the main service is enabled. To check, on the top right-hand section of the screen, you’ll see an on/off icon. Make sure that the icon says “on”. Once that’s complete, you’ll be able to adjust the bass and treble levels using the dials at the bottom of the screen.

    3. Beside the on/off icon, you’ll see a phone-shaped icon, this will be on the top right-hand corner of the screen. Tap on this icon. Once you do, you’ll be shown another screen where you’ll be able to select the output device that’ll have customized audio profiles for each. So, if you’re using headphones, Bluetooth or speaker, you’ll be able to have customized options for each.

    4. Select the “JBL J46BT” option for headphones.

    5. Now that you selected the JBL J46BT option, you can customize the effects. On your screen, you’ll see a variety of arrows, bass, treble, etc. You can choose the type of music playing to give the audio a specific sound. To make sure that your effects are enabled, the effects you’d like to apply must be highlighted green.

    6. Now, this step is optional, however, if you’d like, you can enable the equalizer. If you’re using a different equalizer app, then there’s no need. However, it’s good to know that you can enable this feature with AM3D Zirene Sound. So, in order to do so, you’ll want to turn on the toggle that’s located on the top right-hand side of the main menu. It’s underneath the on/off icon. Once you hit the toggle, select either a preset or you can select user and then customize it yourself. Whatever changes you do will take effect immediately, so, test out the effects by playing some music.

You’ll notice how dramatic the changes are to your sound once you play around with the effects. Don’t be afraid to test out different options and to customize your sound. If you don’t like it, you can always cancel the effect. So, what are you waiting for? Download the app as soon as possible and get started. You’ll never go back to your normal audio every again.
