I think weโve all had dreams of jumping around from building to building. Maybe not even just jumping, but swinging. Almost as some kind of manโฆ.spider. Well, this is not quite the experience youโre looking for. AE City Jump is a game for Windows phones where you kind of get that experience. What does the AE stand for? I have no idea so letโs just say Air…Eagle? Is it the rooftop jumping experience youโve been looking for? I can only say this: itโs a little safer than actually jumping from rooftop to rooftop. A little.
The Basics
As the name implies, the game is all about jumping. And whatever AE means. Each building is set up to be slightly below the building youโll stand on. Once you start swinging from the rope (which is attached to nothing I suppose) you need to let go at just the right moment to land on the top of the next building. And, really, thatโs pretty much it. But letโs keep talking about it to get my word count up a little bit.
The Gameplay
The game is all about physics. You need to make sure youโve got the right amount of momentum to get to the next building. Do it too soon and youโll miss the ledge. Wait too long and youโll swing too far forward. Donโt jump at all and you can just call somebody to pick you up. OK, thatโs not a part of the game, but it should be for those of us that are deathly afraid of heights.
Is It Fun?
The core gameplay of AE City Jump is actually quite fun. I found myself pretty addicted to the game once I got rolling. However, I slowly came to the realization that nothing else was going to happen. I was caught in an endless loop of swing, jump, land, repeat. And that was it. There wasnโt any enemies, obstacles, or people telling you to get off their roof. I guess they just werenโt going for realism.
The Bottom Line
AE City Jump is a fun basic game that desperately needs something extra. Because itโs based around physics, it feels much more fresh in comparison to other similar games. However, thereโs nothing thrown in to make your life more difficult. Youโll find yourself boredly jumping from rooftop to rooftop. And that shouldnโt be boring. It should be extremely, extremely terrifying.
