Now that the Android Oreo update is coming out on the OnePlus 5, youโre probably pretty excited, at least if youโre anything like we are that is โ proud geeks and OnePlus 5 owners. Now before you get pumped about updating your OS, you should know that this is a beta, meaning that there may be bugs and errors which Google hasnโt gotten around to yet. If youโre going to download the beta, make sure you backup your phone and are able to downgrade in case the worst happens. Itโs better to be safe than sorry!
ย
With that mini-disclaimer out there, letโs explain how to update to Android Oreo on your OnePlus 5 device, shall we?
ย
The first thing youโll need is to download OxygenOS. Yes, itโs not technically the same version of Android which ships out of Mountain View every year, but itโs pretty darn close. Furthermore, itโs the only officially supported Android fork for OnePlus devices. In any case, follow the steps below in order to get started.
ย
How to Download OxygenOS
ย
Before using your flash on your device, read these instructions. If you have any problems, we recommend that you contact their customer support for further assistance.
ย
Youโll want to download the software for your device which you can find here at the bottom of the page.Once thatโs completed, plug your phone into your computer and copy the downloaded zip file to your phoneโs storage. If you have a Mac, then to complete this, youโll need to use an Android File Transfer.
ย
Once you copied the zip file to your phone, youโll need to reboot your phone into recovery mode. This means youโll want to turn off your phone and then turn it back on while holding the power and volume down button at the same time.
Your phone will reboot and youโll see โInstall from internal storage/Install from local,โ youโll find the zip file and then click on โInstallโ to confirm the process.
Now, your phone is going to update to the selected build and then reboot itself again to take you to OxygenOS.

What to Expect with Android Oreo
ย
Now that you know how to download OxygenOS, youโre probably wondering what does Android Oreo have to offer its users. Well, there are a couple features that youโll be getting with the new Android Oreo beta.
ย
Added Picture in Picture
Added Auto-fill
Added Smart text selection
New Quick Settings design
Updated to Android O with November security patch
New app folder design
Added notification dots
Added Parallel Apps
Upload photos directly to Shot on OnePlus
ย
These features and updates make a huge difference when using your device, so if youโve been eyeing this update, then we suggest you give it a try. Of course, itโs important to remember that Android Oreo is a beta software. Thus, OnePlus makes it clear on their site that, โthese builds are sometimes NOT as stable as our official OTAs generally are. By installing this update, you accept the potential risks of data loss.โ In conclusion, if youโre worried about potentially losing your data on your device, then we recommend that you make sure you backup all important information prior to downloading this build on your device. If youโre still uncomfortable with this, then you can use their official OTA instead.
