Backing up your device is important. Period. Whether you have an iPhone, iPod, or iPad, conducting regular backups of your deviceโs contents is important so that you wonโt ever experience any loss of personal data should something happen to said device. Youโll especially want to backup your data before you take your device in for repair โ after all, some repairs might end up wiping any data stored on the device itself!
Luckily for you, we live in 2017 and thereโs an easy way to backup your device(s). Nowadays you can store your information either on iCloud or iTunes, depending on which is more convenient for you.
If youโve chosen to back up to iCloud, youโll need to connect your device to a Wi-Fi network. Then go to Settings > [your name] and click on iCloud. Once you tap on iCloud, youโll enter the main page. Tap again on the โBack up Nowโ slider and make sure that you stay connected to Wi-Fi until the process is completed.
To make sure that you backed up your information, go back to Settings > [your name] > iCloud > iCloud Storage > Manage Storage and then click on your device.
Youโll be shown the time and the backup size that was just completed.
Now, if youโre backing up with iTunes, youโll need to open iTunes on your computer and connect your device. Once connected, youโll then want to select what device youโre using. Before getting started, itโs important to note that if you're backing up information that's regarding Health and Activity, youโll be asked to encrypt your data, which means youโll need to make a password to protect this.
If youโre not backing up Health and Activity information, you can directly back up your information without any encryption. Simply click โBackup Nowโ.
Once completed, go to iTunes Preferences > Devices where youโll be able to see the time and size of your backup.
