How to Backup iOS Before Repairs

Backing up your device is important. Period. Whether you have an iPhone, iPod, or iPad, conducting regular backups of your deviceโ€™s contents is important so that you wonโ€™t ever experience any loss of personal data should something happen to said device. Youโ€™ll especially want to backup your data before you take your device in for repair โ€” after all, some repairs might end up wiping any data stored on the device itself!

Luckily for you, we live in 2017 and thereโ€™s an easy way to backup your device(s). Nowadays you can store your information either on iCloud or iTunes, depending on which is more convenient for you.

If youโ€™ve chosen to back up to iCloud, youโ€™ll need to connect your device to a Wi-Fi network. Then go to Settings > [your name] and click on iCloud. Once you tap on iCloud, youโ€™ll enter the main page. Tap again on the โ€œBack up Nowโ€ slider and make sure that you stay connected to Wi-Fi until the process is completed.
To make sure that you backed up your information, go back to Settings > [your name] > iCloud > iCloud Storage > Manage Storage and then click on your device.
Youโ€™ll be shown the time and the backup size that was just completed.

Now, if youโ€™re backing up with iTunes, youโ€™ll need to open iTunes on your computer and connect your device. Once connected, youโ€™ll then want to select what device youโ€™re using. Before getting started, itโ€™s important to note that if you're backing up information that's regarding Health and Activity, youโ€™ll be asked to encrypt your data, which means youโ€™ll need to make a password to protect this.
If youโ€™re not backing up Health and Activity information, you can directly back up your information without any encryption. Simply click โ€œBackup Nowโ€.

Once completed, go to iTunes Preferences > Devices where youโ€™ll be able to see the time and size of your backup.
