How to Change Fonts on Android

When it comes to Android phones, the default font on your device is something that you usually donโ€™t think of. Or, if you do, you donโ€™t think that thereโ€™s an option to change it. If youโ€™re an Android user that wants a different font, maybe something easier on the eyes or a font with more pizazz, youโ€™ll be in luck as you can actually tinker around with your phone/tabletโ€™s fonts in order to choose the one that you like the most.

 

You see, the great part about owning an Android device is that they make your phone customizable for you and your preferences. In this case, it also allows you to change fonts – though, it may not be as easy as it sounds, but nevertheless, it is possible. You donโ€™t need to be a phone expert in order to change the fonts on your Android, though, you will need to go through a couple steps in order to make it happen. Weโ€™re going to show you how to change fonts on Android. There are two methods: one that requires rooting and one that doesnโ€™t.

 

Apps That Require Rooting

 

For rooted phones, there are many apps thatโ€™ll allow you to change your fonts. Our favorite is Font In2staller

 

Font In2staller

 

Is a great app which provides you with a built-in font preview feature, so you can see what the font will look like on your phone before you apply it.

 

1. Copy the TTF font file to your device, preferably into the /sdcard

2. Launch Font Installer.

3. Tap on the โ€œLocalโ€ tab to open the directory explorer. Locate your TTF file.

4. Tap on the TTF file you wish to use. From the popup dialog, tap โ€œInstallโ€ to set it as a default system font.

5. If using Superuser or SuperSU, grant it permission.

6. Font Installer will your device, tap on yes.

 

To install a new font from Font Installerโ€™s online collection, follow these instructions:

1. Open the โ€œServerโ€ tab in Font Installer to see the catalogue of fonts.

2. Tap on the name of the font youโ€™d like.

3. From the popup dialog, tap on โ€œPreviewโ€ to see a sample text or tap on โ€œInstallโ€ to download the font.

4. If a backup notice appears, allow the app to backup your font files.

5. Then, allow the app to reboot your device.

 

No Rooting Required

 

There are plenty of manufacturers that have developed Androids which allow you to change your font without having to go through a complex process in order to do so. The companies that have this built-in feature are Samsung, LG and HTC.

 

The method of changing the fonts will vary from phone to phone, however, youโ€™ll be able to access this option in settings, typically under the Display section. Once youโ€™re in there, youโ€™ll be able to access the font and font size.

 

In order to change the font, it takes only a couple seconds. Go to Settings โ†’ Display โ†’ Font Style. Then, tap on the font youโ€™d like and confirm it. Your font will be instantly replaced and you wonโ€™t need to reboot your phone. Your selected font will be displayed throughout your entire device, including menus, text messages and status bar.

 

Launcher

 

You can always use a launcher if your device doesnโ€™t have the option of changing your font.ย  We recommend using Go Launcher as it provides an option for you to change fonts.

 

1. Copy your TTF font files to the device.

2. Open Go Launcher.

3. Find the โ€œToolsโ€ app and open it.

4. Tap on โ€œPreferencesโ€

5. Scroll down and select โ€œPersonalizationโ€.

6. Tap on โ€œFontโ€.

7. Tap on โ€œSelect Fontโ€ and choose the font youโ€™d like to use.

 

iFont

iFont is another app that can be used to change fonts on Android. This app supports Samsung, Huawei and Xiamoi Meizu devices. To change the font, follow these instructions:

 

  1. Enable installation of app from โ€œUnknown Sourcesโ€. This is usually found in Settings โ†’ Security.
  2. Launch iFont.
  3. Go to the โ€œOnlineโ€ tab.
  4. Tap on a font name you want to install.
  5. Tap โ€œDownloadโ€.
  6. Tap โ€œSet.โ€ Or go to Settings โ†’ Display โ†’ Font Style. Your new font should appear on the list.
  7. Tap on the new font. Your font should then be immediately applied.
