The Android Quick Settings menu is an amazing feature which adds ease and efficiency to any Android device, something which has been extremely popular since the Android Jellybean update hit. With this menu, you‘re able to perform various tasks without having you search through your apps, reducing wasted time and energy tapping around on your phone. Of course, you probably already know where all your most used apps are and the features that you use the most, but why not do it in an easier way? With the Quick Settings menu, you‘re able to quickly put your phone in airplane mode, adjust the ring volume and check your battery level. Maybe you already knew this, but, did you also know that you‘re able to customize the Quick Settings Menu? Well, you can and we‘re going to show you how!
Open the Full Quick Settings Menu
To do this, you‘re first going to have to find the menu. In order to access the menu, you simply take your finger and drag it down from the top of the screen to the bottom. You can do this with a locked screen, however, it‘ll only show you a shortened version of your menu. On a locked screen, you‘re able to use some of the features on Quick Settings such as flashlight and airplane mode. However, any apps which need to access data will not be granted access on a locked screen.
However, it‘s best to do this on an unlocked screen, that way, you‘ll get the full menu. Now, depending on your phone, the defaults that are set on your quick menu vary. The apps that you also installed on your phone may also have Quick Setting icons which can appear there. But don‘t worry, if you don‘t like the options provided, you can change them.
Editing Your Quick Settings Menu
If you don‘t like your options, don‘t worry, you can change them. If you want to change the icons on your Quick Settings Menu, just follow these steps.
- Drag down the menu from the top of your screen. It should then show you a full tray.
- Tap on the pencil icon which is usually for most Androids on the top-right hand of the screen.
- Once you tap on the pencil, you‘ll be taken to the Edit menu.
- To rearrange icons or change them, you‘ll need to long-press (until you feel a vibration) which will then alert you that you‘re able to rearrange or delete the selected icon.
Not sure what options you have in Quick Settings? Here are some of the icons and features you can have in your menu.
• Wi-Fi: shows you which Wi-Fi network you‘re using and the strength of the connection. If you tap on it, it‘ll show you other networks that you can connect to.
• Battery: this shows you the amount of battery life you have left on your phone and whether your battery is charging properly.
• Celluar Data: it shows you if you‘re connected to a cellular network and how strong your data connection is.
• Flashlight: this turns on the flash on the back of your phone, acting as a flashlight.
• Auto-rotate: this allows you to choose whether or not your phone will display content horizontally when you rotate it.
• Airplane mode: this will turn off your phone‘s Wi-Fi and cellular data. It‘s great for when you‘re in an airplane but also when you‘re low on battery life.
• Cast: if you have Chromecast or Google Home, this will allow you to connect to your Chromecast device.
• Bluetooth: connect to your phone‘s Bluetooth antenna with this icon.
• Do Not Disturb: allows you to control your phone‘s notifications. You can customize this feature, allowing specific messages or phone calls to come through. By tapping on Do Not Disturb, essentially, your phone will not alert you of any incoming notifications unless you customize it.
• Location: turns on your phone‘s GPS.
• Hotspot: you can use your phone as a mobile hotspot to share your data with other devices.
• Nearby: allows you to share information between an app on two phones. Of course, the two phones must be nearby each other.
• Data Saver: saves your data usage by turning off apps which are using background data connections.
