Samsung Galaxy S10+ Review

samsung-galaxy-s10-review

In February 2019, Samsung has announced its latest flagship smartphone. The Samsung Galaxy S10 series was released all over the world in March 2019. For smartphone enthusiasts, this is a great opportunity to analyze, scrutinize another best-in-class smartphone.

And, we couldn’t lose this opportunity. So, in this post, we will be reviewing the 10th edition of the renowned Samsung Galaxy S series. Now if you are ready, let’s take a look…

  • The design and color variation:

Samsung hasn't done anything exceptional when it comes to the design. This is the same basic design which you have seen on some of the other Galaxy S devices. However, there are some key differences in the design compared to the previous devices of this popular series.

For instance, the display proportion has changed. Now Samsung calls it the ‘Infinite Display’. You know that in recent times, mobile manufacturers are trying to create a bezel-less display for a long time. And, they have come up with a lot of ideas. We have seen the ‘Notch’, the ‘Punch Hole’, the ‘Mechanical Selfie Camera’ etc. All of them has their pros and cons.

But, Samsung has used the punch hole idea on their Samsung Galaxy S10 series. You will find the punch hole in the top right corner of the screen. Samsung coined a new name for this type of display which is the ‘Infinity-O display’. You might like it or not but the notch/hole is there. But the notch is so little that you will be adapted to it quickly. After a couple of days of use, you might not even notice it. But with that, you are losing the notification LED in the Samsung Galaxy S10.

In short, we can say that the design and outlook of the phone are very attractive. You are also getting 8 colors to choose from. The colors are Prism Black, Prism White, Prism Blue, Prism Green, Ceramic White, Ceramic Black, Canary Yellow, and Flamingo Pink. You won’t have problems finding the perfect color for yourself.

  • Display:

Simply put, the Samsung Galaxy S10/S10+ has the best display in any mobile devices right now. It comes with a Dynamic Amoled Display. It now supports HDR10+. It is the first smartphone to support HDR10+.

The Galaxy S10+ comes with a 6.4-inch display. The resolution and PPI density of the display is 1440 x 3040 pixels and 522 ppi density respectively. The aspect ratio of the display is 19:9. It comes with the protection of Corning Gorilla Glass 6.

In contrast, the Galaxy S10 comes with a little smaller display which is 6.1 inch. The PPI density of the display of the Galaxy S10 is a bit higher than the S10+ which is 550 PPI density. Other than that the resolution and the aspect ratio are the same. The display panel is very much improved than the previous iterations. You won’t have any problem using it in direct sunlight. The display really stands out among the other features of this smartphone.

  • Cameras:

There’s a huge competition in the ‘Camera’ section among the smartphone manufactures. Every other day, new camera technology is being introduced. And, Samsung has added a new ultra-wide camera on the back of Samsung Galaxy S10/S10+. So, there are 3 cameras in total at the back. And they are 12 MP (wide), 12 MP (telephoto), and 16 MP (ultra wide) respectively. But there are two cameras at the front of the S10+ and 1 selfie camera on the S10.

The image quality is quite good. But arguably, there are other smartphones available in the market which can capture better pictures than the Samsung Galaxy S10. Both the front and the back cameras can take videos up to 2160p. The ultra-wide camera is fun to use. It has a 123-degree field of view. So, you are getting a unique perspective while capturing with the ultra-wide camera. Overall, the camera quality of the Samsung Galaxy S10 is very good. You will love it if you capture a lot of photos using your smartphone.

  • UI and Software:

The Samsung Galaxy S10 comes with Android Pie (9.0). But the user interface of the smartphone has been redesigned by Samsung. It comes with the One UI. The One UI has replaced the famous TouchWiz by Samsung. Now, the icons and buttons are more rounded and it is better for one-handed use.

There’s also the Bixby assistant. It might not be useful for you if you are an avid Google assistant user. Sadly, you can’t disable it entirely. However, you can assign quick commands on the Bixby button to carry out other tasks. The ‘Edge’ functions are also there. Overall, the software part of the smartphone hasn’t changed a lot. But it does the work quite perfectly.

  • Battery and recharging:

Samsung Galaxy S10 comes with a 3400 mAh battery. And the Galaxy S10+ comes with a 4100 mAh battery. The battery life is good. But, it could be a little bit better for a large display like this. However, we also have to consider the thickness of the phone. Because if they want to increase the battery life, the phone will get thicker eventually. Thus, we don't have any complaint about the current situation of the battery backup of the Samsung Galaxy S10 series.

You can charge the phone in both wired and wirelessly. The fast charging feature is also available. Along with that, Samsung has introduced reverse wireless charging. That means you can charge other wireless charging capable devices by placing them on the back of your phone. Pretty cool, huh?

  • Additional Specs:

This smartphone comes with front and back glass. The body frame is made of Aluminum. You are also having the headphone jack and it is also IP68 water and dust proof. The Galaxy S10 comes with 128/512 GB internal memory (external micro SD up to 512 GB) and 8 GB RAM. And the Galaxy S10+ comes with two variations. First one is 1 TB, 12 GB RAM. And the second one is 128/512 GB, 8 GB RAM (external micro SD up to 512 GB).

Samsung has introduced the ‘under display fingerprint’ which is an Ultrasonic fingerprint sensor with the Galaxy S10 series. It has its good and bad. But as it is a new technology, we can hope for an improvement in the coming days nonetheless.

Pros:

  • Attractive Design, Very good build quality
  • One of the best displays in the market right now
  • Good Battery backup
  • Good photo and video quality, comes with triple back camera
  • Powerful hardware translates into excellent performance
  • A lot of color variations

Cons:

  • Using the new under-display Fingerprint Sensor can be little bit infuriating
  • Image and video quality can be bad under low light
  • Charging speed could be better
  • The punch hole design might not be your cup of tea
  • Not worth upgrading if you already have the Samsung Galaxy S9

Wrapping things up:

You can see that the Samsung Galaxy S10/S10+ has its drawbacks. But, that doesn’t mean that it is a bad phone. Rather, if you take a look at the good side, then you can be sure that this is one of the best (if not the best) smartphones of 2019. It has an appealing design, awesome display, high-end spec. So, if you are thinking about getting a new smartphone in 2019, there’s no need to look further. The Samsung Galaxy S10 series is there for you.
