The world of video streaming is fascinating. Ten years ago everyone was talking about how the growing number of cable channels would change traditional media. (Although it was worth it to finally get a Game Show Network.) And now, it seems like we have millions and millions of channels to get entertained. One of these online avenues, called Twitch TV, has grown in popularity over the past few years. In fact, itโs one of the most popular platforms for those live streaming themselves playing video games. Didnโt know people live stream themselves playing video games? Donโt worry, Iโm pretty sure youโre not the first. Weโll get into it later. Letโs take a look at Twitch for iOS devices.
What Is Twitch?
Twitch is an online streaming service with a distinct focus on gaming. For the uninitiated, itโs become very popular for people to stream themselves playing video games while making commentary throughout. In fact, there was a very interesting phenomenon a few years ago called โTwitch Plays Pokemonโ, in which users would input various commands in the comment section that would control the game. It was pretty much as chaotic and crazy as you would imagine.
How Is The App?
I can honestly say that the Twitch app rivals the YouTube app in terms of simple functionality. The interface easily allows you to choose a game you'd like to see livestreamed, and any video youโre playing will continue streaming in the background if youโre still searching around for a new channel to watch.
Should You Get It?
The interface of Twitch itself is worth checking out. Other media streaming services such as Netflix and Hulu could learn a few things from the easy to-use system of Twitch. However, your enjoyment of Twitch as a whole will be equal to your enjoyment of videos games. And, most importantly, watching people play video games. If you were the kind of kid that waited desperately for your sibling to lose in a video game so you got your turn to play, you may not enjoy it.
