What to Do When Your iPhone Won’t Connect to Wi-Fi

iphone wifi

Having problems connecting to your Wi-Fi network? Youโ€™re not the only one. Unfortunately, iPhones are somewhat prone to issues when connecting to Wi-Fi networks that arenโ€™t powered by routers that have been โ€˜Designed in Cupertinoโ€™, if you catch our drift.

Luckily for you, weโ€™ve compiled the techniques that work the best for troubleshooting a spotty wireless network. Just follow these steps in order to determine whether or not the issue is related to your deviceโ€™s hardware.

Turn Your Deviceโ€™s Wi-Fi Off and On

This should be your go-to move if youโ€™re having connection issues. Before doing anything else, try to simply turn off and back on your Wi-Fi. To do so, swipe up from the bottom of your screen which will open the control center. Once there, youโ€™ll want to tap on the Wi-Fi icon which will turn it off. Wait 10 seconds and then tap the icon again to reactivate your Wi-Fi. To access your Wi-Fi, you can also go to โ€œSettingsโ€, tap on โ€œWi-Fiโ€ and then tap the switch beside โ€œWi-Fiโ€. If that doesnโ€™t fix the issue then continue reading below.

Turn off Your Bluetooth

Your iPhoneโ€™s Bluetooth could be another reason as to why your Wi-Fi isnโ€™t working properly. Believe it or not, Bluetooth can sometimes cause an interference with the Wi-Fi connection. So, to see if the problem is Bluetooth, youโ€™ll want to deactivate it. To do so, swipe up from the bottom of your screen which will take you to Control Center. Once youโ€™ve done that, Tap the Bluetooth icon and youโ€™ll turn it off. You can also access this by going to Settings, tapping on General and then turning off your Bluetooth.

Toggle Airplane Mode

Come back from a trip, recently? Listen, weโ€™ve all forgotten to turn off Airplane Mode โ€” itโ€™s really nothing to be ashamed of, really. If Airplane Mode is on, your phone wonโ€™t be able to connect to any network. But, if you turn this off, your problem will be immediately solved.

To do so, youโ€™ll want to go into Settings and turn Airplane mode on. Then, youโ€™ll want to wait 3 seconds before turning it back on. Once youโ€™ve done this, try to connect to your Wi-Fi network once again.

Toggle Wi-Fi Assistant

If you have iOS 10 installed on your iPhone, then you might know about the Wi-Fi Assist feature introduced in iOS 9. With this feature, youโ€™ll be able to secure a stable internet connection in no time. Whatโ€™s great about this feature is that even if you have Wi-Fi but the connection is slow, your device will automatically switch you to cellular. Wi-Fi Assist solves many of the Wi-Fi connection issues that are frequent in iPhones. To activate this feature, youโ€™ll want to go to settings, then tap on Cellular. Scroll down the screen turn โ€œWi-Fi Assistโ€ on and then back off.

Restart Your iPhone

Sometimes your phone just needs a reboot. To reboot completely, youโ€™ll want to press and hold down the sleep/wake button. A โ€œslide to power offโ€ button will appear on the screen, slide it to turn off the phone. Wait a couple seconds, press and hold the sleep/wake button to turn your phone back on.

Forget the Wi-Fi Network

If youโ€™re still having problems, try to forget the Wi-Fi network and connect to it again. Simply go to Settings, tap on Wi-Fi and then tap on the information button (i) thatโ€™s beside the network youโ€™re currently connected to. Then press โ€œforget this networkโ€ and confirm your action. Once thatโ€™s done, try to connect back to the network by pressing on it and entering the password.

Check Your Router and Modem

Sometimes the problem isnโ€™t with your phone, itโ€™s with your router and modem โ€” so give it the olโ€™ restart! Unplug your router and modem and wait for 30 seconds. Plug them back in, wait a couple minutes and then try to reconnect to your Wi-Fi.
