Now, though it sounds easy, you should know that it’s actually quite difficult to record a call as Android does not have the built-in tools to do so, or the apps that are available do not have clear audio which is important when recording a call. Though, this doesn’t mean it’s impossible to record a call. We should tell you that you should check your state’s laws on recording a call, however, it’s usually legal if both parties consent to the recording which you will want to be recorded with the call. Google Voice
Since you’re using Android, Google Voice is one of the easiest ways to record a call. It allows you to record your calls for free, however, only incoming calls. In order to do this, you’ll need to have a Google Voice account. Once you set up your account, here’s how you enable recording on your account.
- Go to the Google Voice homepage
- On the upper-right hand corner of the screen, you’ll see a gear icon, click on it and select settings from the drop-down menu.
- Once you’re in settings, you’ll want to find the calls There, you’ll want to check the box which is titled enable recording. You’ll find this close to the bottom of the page.
Once this is complete, you’ll be able to record incoming calls by pressing the “4” button on your keypad. When you hit “4”, the person on the other line will receive a voice message announcing that the conversation is being recorded. To stop recording, press “4” again. It’ll stop the recording and automatically save the conversation.
If you want to access the saved conversation, go to Google Voice, click on menu and then click recorded.

This app also has a “shake to record” feature which allows you to record a call just by shaking your phone. You can set up this app to save your recorded calls to Dropbox or Google Drive.
Handheld Recorder
Now, if you’re not able to use Google Voice or a third-party app, then we suggest using a handheld recorder. It’s more expensive than using an app, however, it gets the job done.
