Typically, your iPhone can receive and send text messages to/from any devices. However, if you own an iPad or Mac then this is not possible automatically. Because the iMessage app on iPad and Mac can send messages to other Apple devices only.

Steps to follow:
- Navigate to the ‘Settings’ menu, and scroll down and tap on ‘Messages’ option
- Then tap on the ‘Text Message Forwarding’ option
- In this page, you will find a list of devices from/to which you can send and receive text messages
- Now, you need to tap on the name of the device on which you want to send and receive text messages. If the slider turns to green then it is enabled. You can tap again on the slider to disable any particular device
If you don't find the device you are searching for on the list, then you will need to sign in to the messages app of your iPad/Mac with the same Apple ID as your iPhone. Let’s see how to do that.
Steps for iPad users:
- Head over to the ‘Settings’ option on your iPad
- Scroll down a bit to find out the ‘Messages’ option and tap on it
- Then you need to enter the same Apple ID and Password here that you are using on your iPhone
- And tap on the ‘Sign In’ button
- After you have signed in, you can enable (if it isn’t enabled) the ‘Messages’ app by sliding the slider to green
- Instantly, you will get a notification on your iPhone, simply tap on ‘OK’ to close it
Steps for Mac users:
- Open iMessage/Messages app on your Mac
- Then from the menu bar, navigate to ‘Messages > Preferences’
- Next, you need to sign in with your Apple ID and Password (same as your iPhone) on the iMessage tab
- After you have signed in, you will get a notification on your iPhone and Mac. So, click or tap on ‘OK’ to close the notification popup
