Apple fans beware: the iPhone 8 isn’t what you’re used to. At least not if you’re looking to use the home button. You see, this is the first generation iPhone without a solid Home button.
Now, you may be thinking that it’s not a big deal, however, not having the old school home button will affect force restarting, entering recovery-mode, and going into DFU mode. If you find yourself doing any of those things because your iDevice is acting funky, and are confused as to how to proceed, you needn’t worry as we’re here to help you use your new device to its full potential.

How to Force Restart iPhone 8s
If you want to force restart, also known as hard reset, it’s quite easy to do. On your iPhone 8, you’ll want to press and release the volume up button, then, press the release the volume down button and then press and hold down the side button until you see your device rebooting. Once you see that, release the buttons. When you’re pressing down the buttons, you’ll want to do this in a relatively quick manner. When holding down the side button, make sure you press it down for at least ten seconds, and this will ignite the force restart on your iPhone 8.
How to Get into Recovery-Mode on iPhone 8
In order to get your iPhone into recovery-mode, there are a couple things you’ll need to do. You’ll first want to connect your iPhone 8 to your PC or Mac computer with a USB cable. Once that’s completed, you’re onto the next step. Now, you’re going to press and release the volume up button, press and release the volume down button and also press and hold down the side button. You’ll know that you did it correctly because your device will reboot. Make sure to keep holding down the side button even though you’ll see the Apple logo, keep it held down.
Then, release the side button when you see the “Connect to iTunes” logo that will disappear on your iPhone’s display screen. Once that’s completed, launch iTunes. When you launch iTunes, you’re going to see a message on the screen which says, “there is a problem with the iPhone that requires it to be updated or restored.” Now, you can choose either if you want to update your iPhone or if you want to restore your iPhone’s software.
How to Get into DFU Mode on iPhone 8
When entering DFU Mode, before anything, you’re going to have to connect your iPhone to either your PC or Mac computer with the use of a USB cable.
On your iPhone 8, press and release the volume up button, press and release the volume down button and press and hold down the side button for ten seconds until you see the display screen go black. Now, while keeping the side button held down, you’re going to press and hold the volume down button for 5 seconds and then release the side button while keeping the volume down button held down for an additional 10 seconds. The display screen should be black during this.
Now, you’re going to launch your iTunes. After you launch it, you’ll see a message which says, “iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes.” You may proceed from there.
Now, if you want to exit out of recovery-mode, you’re going to have to press and hold down the side button while the “connect to iTunes” logo disappears from your display screen. Please note that If you want to exit out of DFU mode, you’re going to have to press and release the volume up button, press and release the volume down button and also press and hold down the side button. Do this until you see the Apple logo pop up on your display screen.
