  • How Do You Transfer Data from One iPhone to Another?

Buying a new iOS device to replace an aging model? Congrats, you’re one of the millions around the word who’ve decide to upgrade to a new model! Now, if you *do* have a new iPhone or iOS device, you’re going to want to transfer your personal data from your old iPhone to your new one. If you thought it wasn’t possible or that it’s too complicated, well, you’ll be happy to know how easy it is. Let’s get down to brass tax, shall we?

Things to Do Before You Transfer Your Data

Before you even start the process of transferring your data, there are a couple things you’re going to have to do. These steps will ensure that your data is saved and secure, making the transfer as simple as possible:

    • If you have an Apple Watch connected to your old iPhone, you’re going to have to unpair your Apple Watch from your old iPhone. Unpairing your Apple Watch will automatically backup your Apple Watch so that you’ll be able to restore it when you pair it with your new iPhone. Of course, all your personal data will be transferred effortlessly.

    • Make sure all your data is backed. This is usually automatic with your iPhone since it’s connected to iCloud. We’ll show you how to do this later on.

    • If you’re selling your old iPhone, make sure you’re logged off of all your accounts and that your data is erased.

How to Transfer Your Data from Your Old iPhone Using iCloud

Before you transfer your data, you’re going to have to backup your data. This means all your information from your old iPhone will be sent to your new one.

To backup your information on iCloud, you’re going to have to connect your iPhone to the internet via Wi-Fi. One that’s done, you’ll be able to start the transferring process. Go to settings, click on your name and tap on iCloud. Once you’re in that section, tap on iCloud Backup. If you’re using iOS 10.2 or earlier, you’ll tap on settings, then iCloud and then Backup.

Check that iCloud Backup is turned on. Then, tap on Back Up Now. It’ll start the transferring process, so you’ll want to make sure that you remain connected to Wi-Fi until the process is completed.

Transferring Your iCloud Backup Data to Your New Device

With your new iPhone, you’re going to turn on the device. If you’ve already set up the phone, you’ll have to erase your data and start over again. To do this, go into settings > general > reset > Erase All Content and Settings. This will erase all the data that’s currently on the device. If you did it correctly, you’ll want to see “Hello” appear on your screen when you restart it.

Press the Home button when you see the “Hello” appear on your screen. Follow the steps shown until you reach the Wi-Fi screen. Once you get to the Wi-Fi screen, connect to a Wi-Fi network. After that, you’re going to follow the steps until you see Apps & Data screen. Once there, tap on restore from iCloud Backup and then hit next.

You’re then going to have to sign-in to your iCloud account, using your Apple ID and password. You’ll be asked to choose a backup. Make sure you choose the correct one by looking at the size and date.

Stay connected to Wi-Fi until it completes the process. Once finished all your personal data such as music, photos and apps will be transferred to your new iPhone.

How to Transfer Your Data from Your Old iPhone Using iTunes

Connect your old iPhone to your computer then open iTunes on your desktop, selecting your device. Under summary, click on back up now. Then the back up process will begin, this may take a while depending on the size.

Connect your new device to your computer and open your iTunes, selecting your device. Then, click on Restore Back up. Choose a backup, make sure you pick the right one by looking at the size and date. Then, the process will start, make sure your new phone remains plugged into the computer until it’s finished. This may take a while depending on the size of your data.

Once you open up your iTunes on your iPhone and you’ll see all your data transferred. It’s really just that simple!

  • How to Add More Storage to an iPhone or iPad

    iphone wifi

If you have an iPhone, then you know the trouble you have with storage. Apple’s iPhones sadly have fixed storage, so if you’re needing more space, you’re out of luck. However, you may be able to do this easy trick to allow your iPhone to have a little more storage space.

If you’re needing some space, we recommend you delete your Facebook app. Don’t worry, you can still access it through Chrome. You should know that the Facebook app alone takes up between 500-600MB. You’ll thank us after you do it, especially when you see your battery life drastically increase. But if you’re needing more space, you’re going to have to do more than just delete your Facebook app. Here are some tricks you can do. Though they’re not ideal, these are the best options available for you at this time.

     External Storage Anyone?

You probably didn’t think of this as most people only think of external storage when it comes to their computers or cameras. However, external storage can give you unlimited space for your photos, music, documents, and movies. You have two options for external storage: plug-in storage (aka. Flash drive) or wireless media hubs.

Though you’ll have to make sure it’s phone-friendly, a flash drives can really change how your phone functions, for the better, that is.  For example, SanDisk’s IXpand line will provide you between 32GB to 256GB of external memory. It has a lightning connector at one end and USB 3.0 on the other. The wrap around design also reduces bulk so that it’s not sticking out of your phone.

Another option is something like Leef IAccess which has no onboard storage, instead, it holds microSD cards which you can alternate between your camera or phone. However, you should know that drives such as this one are not connected full-time. Meaning, you access them when you need it.

However, regardless of which drive you decide to use, you’ll be able to store your music, videos and data, thus, relieving your device, allowing it to hold apps and other information.

In order to use a plug-in device, you’ll need to follow these three easy steps:

Step 1: You need to connect your device to your PC or Mac. Then place any media/data you need on it.

Step 2: You’ll need to install the app that is compatible with the device you’re using.

Step 3: Run the app. Once it’s running, connect it to the drive. Now, you’re able to stream your media, music, photos and documents.

    Wireless Options for External Storage

Now, if you’re not interested in having a flash drive sticking out of your phone, we don’t blame you. Instead, if you want, you can also take the wireless route, also known as a media hub. They usually come in various sizes and capacities, so, you’ll need to choose one which suits your needs. Though, regardless of the size, you need to ensure that you choose one with a pass-through option. The pass-through feature allows your device to stay connected to a Wifi network while you’re connected to the drive. This will decrease the time you need to disconnect and reconnect.

    Still Not Enough?

If this still isn’t enough space for you, then you should consider purchasing a wireless hard drive. The wireless hard drive works similar to the media hub, however, it’s large in both size and price. So, it’s not as convenient if you’re looking for something portable.

However, if you need more space, you can opt for something a little more portable such as Seagate Wireless Mobile Storage drive. It will offer you 20 hours of battery life and is pocket-friendly. Of course, it’s pricier than an SD card or flash drive, however, if you’re in need of more memory, you’ll have to pay more, it’s that simple.

Of course, we’re hoping that with the new iDevices, they’ll create expansion slots. However, until then, then, you’ll have to use external storage to deal with your memory storage issues. If you’re in a bind when it comes to finding space on your device, remember, you can always delete your Facebook app!

    Google Acct

Most of us don’t only have a single Google Account. Besides our personal account, you likely have at least one business account provided to you by your employer, and maybe even a Google account which you use entirely for spam emails. If you also happen to be a heavy Android user in addition to being a multiple account holder, then you probably also know how much of a hassle it can be to switch from one account to another. Luckily, you don’t have to own multiple devices just so you can access your numerous Google accounts. Android OS makes it easy to be able to freely access your accounts with just a single tap. Not only that, but, in fact, Android has made it easy for users to add, sync, and remove accounts. With Android, you’re fully in control of your Google accounts all on one phone. Let’s get you set up, shall we?

If you want to add a second Google account to your Android device, you’re going to have to follow these steps:

You’re going to want to be on your home screen. When you’re there, you’re going to go to settings. You’ll find settings in the app drawer or the notification shade. To get to your notification shade, swipe down from the top of your phone.

Then, when you’re in the settings menu, swipe up and you’ll see accounts. Tap on that to open it up. Once there, tap on Add Account, then tap on Google. It’ll ask you to type in your email address, you’ll be able to create a new account and add it into the system. Once your email address is added, tap Next. Enter your password and tap next again.

You’ll be asked to enter a 2-step verification code, if you enabled it. Once you enter it in, tap next. You’ll then be shown the Terms of Service and Private Policy, you’ll need to accept it to proceed. Tap billing information option and then tap to continue. Now you’ve added a second Google account to your Android device.

If you’re adding this account after it’s been on another device, please be aware that any local data on your phone from that Google account will not be transferred to your new device. Though, all your information that’s stored on your cloud will be backed and secure.

If you’re looking to remove an account, you can also follow these instructions:

You can add and remove as many accounts as you’d like. You can always re-add the account onto your phone, however, if you no longer want the Google account on your phone, you can remove it. You’ll still have all your data backed onto your cloud, unless it’s data from your phone.

What you’ll need to do is swipe down from the top of your home screen. There, you’ll be shown the settings button, it looks like a gear. You’ll need to tap that in order to get into the settings home screen. Once in the settings home screen, you’ll want to swipe up in order to scroll down the menu. You’re going to look for accounts and then tap on it. Once in accounts, tap on Google and then, once in Google, you’re going to tap on the Google account you’d like to have removed.

Once you’ve tapped on the Google account, you’ll want to tap on the Menu button which is on the right-hand side and looks like 3 vertical dots. It’ll open up and you’ll want to select Remove account. Tap on remove account again to confirm that you’re removing the account.

When you remove a Google account all the data associated with it is also deleted from your phone. Though, you’ll still have access to it from your cloud service. So, if you have contacts on it, you’ll still be able to retrieve it, though, you’ll need to access your cloud. You can re-add the account to your phone anytime you’d like or add that account onto another device, however. If you’re concerned about accidentally deleting your account by pocket dialing, or otherwise It’s also important to note Android will provide you with a warning about data deletion before you remove the account from your phone.

  • How to move from iOS to Android

Thinking about making the jump to an Android device? We’ve got you. While most people, don’t end up making the transition because they’re worried that they’ll lose all their information, the fact is that making the jump has never been easier. To get started all you need is your iOS device, an Android device, and an internet connection. It really is that simple!

Let’s get started on how to move from iOS to Android so that you can start using your Android as soon as possible.

    Before You Transition

Remember that all your accessories you’ve bought for your iPhone will not longer be usable on your Android device. This means that if you have cases, chargers or docks, you should probably sell them or give them to iPhone users that you know. Androids have an array of accessories, so don’t worry, you’ll be able to find cases, chargers, docks, etc.

What You Need to Do Before You Begin

Before you begin your transfer, you’ll need to do a couple things so that everything runs smoothly.

Go on your Android device and make sure that the Wi-Fi is turned on. Plug both, your iOS device and your Android device into their chargers, so that the transfer isn’t disrupted.

You’ll want to check that the content you’re transferring is able to move, including the information on your external SD card - meaning, your Android has enough room to hold your data.

Lastly, if you want to transfer your Chrome data, you need to make sure your Android has the latest updates and version of Chrome.

    Transfer in 3 Easy Steps

That’s right, this can all be done in three easy steps. I know, you probably thought this was more complex, but it’s not.

    Get Google Drive

You need to download Google Drive to your iOS device and then sign in with your Google account. If you don’t have an account, no problem, just register and then you’re all set. If you already have Google Drive installed, then all you need to do is double check that you have the latest updates for it.

    Back up Your Information

Open Google Drives. Once you’re in Google Drives, open up the backup wizard. To do this, you’ll need to select Menu. Then, go to Settings and select Backup. Now, it’s going to show you the possible files and information that you can back up, simply select what you’d like to back up or if you want to back up everything, select Start Backup.

Now, backing up your information could take several hours depending on the amount of information you’re wanting to back up. When you’re backing up, make sure you have the time to leave your phone as well as a reliable internet connection. Also, make sure your device is plugged into the wall, charging.

    Sign into Your Android Device

Now that your iPhone is backing up, you’ll want to sign into your Google account on your Android device. You have to use the same account as you were using on your iPhone in order for them to sync the backed information.

Once you login into your Android, you’ll see all your information via your Google account. Through Calendar, Contacts App and Google photos, you’ll have access to all your contact, photos, videos, appointments and emails right on your Android phone.

    Double Check

You’ll want to double check that your data was successfully transferred to your Android device. If some information did move, you can move it manually. However, this shouldn’t be a problem

Now that you know how to transfer your data from your iPhone to your new Android device, you should have no problem doing so. It’s never been this easy to transition from an iOS device to Android, so, take advantage of this technology and get yourself accustomed to your new Android as soon as possible. If you follow these steps, you’ll be using your Android within a couple of hours. So, we hope these instructions helped you and enjoy your new Android.

  • How to Clear Cache on Chrome (Android)

    Clear Cache Android

Every time you open your internet browser, your Android device collects data on your browsing habits. Whether it’s cookies, cache, or browsing history, all that data eventually piles up and could cause lower end phones to lag, impacting performance. Most of us use Chrome to access the internet and surf the web on our Android tablets and phones and, though the mobile version of Google Chrome is optimized for mobile performance, the core engine is largely the same — meaning that Chrome for Android OS is wonderfully bloated as a browser.

So how do you combat lag all while evading privacy concerns? Well, before we explain how to clear your cache, how about a crash course on what exactly Chrome is collecting when you log onto the information superhighway. Chrome — like all browsers — uses browsing history, cookies and caches to speed up your browsing experience, to a point. Though, you should know, that in Chrome, these three things - browsing history, caches and cookies - are all different groups. With Chrome, you’re given the options of deleting all of them or you can even erase them from a particular website. So, Google Chrome gives you various options with how you wish to control your cookies, browsing history and caches.

    What Are Cookies?

No, it doesn’t come with chocolate chips, sadly. Cookies are small files that are stored on your computer by the websites you’ve visited, known as ‘first-party cookies’. They hold data about a client or website which can be used to give the user a web page that is tailored to them. Cookies can also carry information from one site to another, the types of cookies which do this are called ‘third-party cookies’.

    What Is Cached Data?

Cached data is a type of data storage. It’s a collection of web pages which include text, media and images. This data is stored on your phone so that the next time you open the web page, it loads faster. However, cached data uses memory on your phone and can cause it to lag.

    What Is Browsing Data?

Every time you click something or watch a video, this is stored in your internet browsing history. It’s essentially a log of everything you’ve clicked on while online.

How to Clear Cache and Cookies

By clearing Chrome’s cache and cookies means that the website settings will be deleted. You may notice that some sites will function a little slower than normal, this is simply because the images have to be reloaded.

On your Android device, open up Chrome.

Once in Chrome, click on the browser toolbar and tap ‘More’. The browser toolbar will have three vertical dots, that is ‘More’. Then, click on ‘History’ and tap on ‘Clear browsing data.’

It’ll take you to another option where you’re going to see ‘Clear browsing data.’ You’ll want to select the checkboxes for ‘Cookies and site data’ and ‘Cached images and files.’

You will use the menu at the top of the page to select how much data you’d like deleted. You can even choose to select everything and deleted literally all of the cached data and cookies.

Once you selected the amount of data, click on ‘Clear browsing data.’

Voila! All your Chrome cached data and cookies will be erased. Congrats!

    How to Clear Browsing History

By deleting your browsing history, you are deleting all activity that you’ve done online. Once it’s deleted, you will not be able to retract your internet browsing history. To delete your browsing history is very similar to deleting your cached data and cookies. What you’re going to do, is open up Google Chrome. Once in Google Chrome, you’re going to click on the browser toolbar and tap ‘More’. The browser toolbar will have three vertical dots, that is ‘More’. Then, under ‘Advanced’, you’re going to click on ‘Privacy’. Once in privacy, you’ll see 'Clear browsing data’, you’re going to click on that. At the top of the page, tap the drop-down tab which you’ll see under ‘Clear data from the’. Now, you’re going to select a time period in which you’d like the data to be released. For example, you can choose to delete your browsing history from the past 24 hours or the past month. You also have the option to delete your entire browsing history, right from the beginning of time. Select the time period which you’d like to delete. Once that’s done, you’ll click on ‘Clear data’. Then, your data will be deleted and cleared permanently from your phone.

Now that you know how to delete your Chrome’s cached data, cookies and browsing history, go ahead and give it a try! You’ll notice your phone will feel much much faster. Have fun!

  • How to Have Live Photo Wallpapers on Your iPhone with Wally Papes

    Wally Papes 2

Technology is a beautiful thing. We’re able to do just about anything just with these slabs of metal and circuitry that we carry around with us in our pockets, from staying in touch with our friends around the world to getting actual work done. In fact, our devices are so feature packed, we’re willing to bet that you’re most likely looking at your phone for hours on end as you go about your busy life.

Since we’re all on our phones for a considerable length of time throughout the day, it’s also perfectly understandable that you would want your phone to represent your individuality — an oasis of ‘you’ in the otherwise uniform piece of tech that is your smartphone.

While Apple has allowed you to set personal wallpapers — including animated photos — for quite some time now, one striking omission that Cupertino hasn’t yet addressed is the fact that you have not been able to use ‘live photos’, the 3 second animated photos that you can take with your iPhone, as your wallpaper just yet.

That’s where Wally Papes comes in. This ingenious app was created by an avid nature photographer named ‘Gorum’. As an actual photographer, Gorum realized that our phone wallpapers are oftentimes missing the beauty and individuality that he’s used to capturing when he’s behind the lens. • How to Move My Android Data to a New Device

    Android To New Device

Before buying a new phone, it’s normal to start thinking about the hassle that’s inevitably going to come when transferring everything over from your last device. Though Android is quite developed when it comes to cloud services, Google still has a lot of work to do when it comes to transferring data with ease and efficiency — and while not entirely headache free, the Mountain View-based company has made gotten data transfer to the point where you won't be cringing when you look at your old and new phone. Here’s what you need to do in order to make transferring your data as pain free as possible.

    Backup Your Information

Before you even think about transferring your information, you need to make sure your data is backed. Just in case your transfer doesn’t go as planned, you’ll have a peace of mind knowing that it’s back up safely and securely.

In order to do this, you’ll need to make sure your old phone is signed into your Google account. To make sure you’re logged in, you’ll want to go to your phone’s settings and check in the Google tab. Once you check that, you’ll be able to backup your phone. Go into your phone’s setting, and depending on the Android you have, you need to look for ‘Backup & reset’. If you’re having problems finding this, in the search bar look up ‘backup’.

Once you’re in the backup area, you’ll be shown a couple of options. You’ll see ‘Backup Google Drive’ which you’ll want to activate by tapping the switch beside it on. It will backup data such as apps, call history, device settings, contacts, photos, videos and SMS messages. Once you turn it on, it’ll backup automatically.

Then, you have the option to ‘Backup my data’. You’ll want to tap that on. This will backup your application data, Wi-fi passwords, and certain phone settings. These will be sent to Google and will transfer to your new phone once connected. By doing this, you won’t have to re-enter passwords to networks you’ve saved them on.

Now, once that’s completed, you’ll want to double check that all your information is backed. Go into your Google account and check to see if your information is there. If it’s there, then you’ve backed up your information.

    Photos and Music

Now, if you’re wanting to transfer your photos and music, you’ll be able to use Google for this as well. It’s available for all phones. In order to do this, you’ll want to go to your settings on your phone. Then click on ‘Backup & Sync’. It’s important that the toggle beside it is blue, this mean it’s turned on. What’s great about your Google storage is that it doesn’t count your photos when using up storage. So, you’ll be able to store as many photos as you like without having to worry about using up storage.

Now, if you’re wanting to backup your music, you have two ways to do so. If you’re already connected to iTunes, Spotify and Google Play Music - you just go to the app on your new phone and sign in with your username and password. All your music will be accessible.

However, if you’re not using any of these services, you can still use Google Play Music, as they’ll allow you to store up to 100,000 songs for free. To do this, you need to sign in with your Google account. Once there, install Music Manager app on your PC. After you select the source of your music, the app does the rest of the work, uploading music and adding it to your library.

    Passwords and Bookmarks

If you’re using Chrome, (and chances are that you are) you can also transfer your browser history, passwords and bookmarks to your new phone. To do this, go to the ‘Google tab’ in settings. Once there, scroll down and tap on ‘Smart Lock for Passwords’. When you’ve gotten there, you’ll be able to activate activate this feature by tapping the switch to “on”. Then, on your new device, once you sign into Chrome, all your passwords and information will be automatically transferred.

If you’ve followed the steps above, you should be ready to go with your new device. Fantastic job!
